Hey there,
Did you know that I also have some recordings of me reading passages from scripture on my website? Well, there’s only four so far- three from the Pali Canon and one from The Holy Bible. You can find them at this link. But I’ll also put them below, since I’m not really writing a blog, and it will make it feel more complete. I just recently uploded 3/4 of these to YouTube and InsightTimer, and of course you always have the option of downloading it directly- like the punk rocker you are- to your device to have and to hold until you run out of space on your disk and erase it for space to fit a shiny new app or someting.
Ecclesiastes NKJV (38min) The Book of Ecclesiastes is an Old Testament wisdom text, apparently written by a wise teacher, “son of David”, who laments the futility of life on one level, but through this contemplation shares deeper insights with the reader. Please enjoy for your own contemplation, meditation, or as a bedtime story. YouTube, InsightTimer
Sedaka Sutta 1 (4:13)- The Acrobat. Translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
Metta Sutta (3:26)-This is the Buddhist teaching on good will. This translation is closest to Thanissaro Bhikkhu’s translation, with some variation from other translations and the quirks of memory. This recording can be used as an affirmation practice, a reminder of qualities purported to be beneficial for a peaceful mind, a better life, and even better sleep. These qualities are also thought to have the potential to become limitless in scope, so it’s a good practice for cultivating a more expansive mind. YouTube, InsightTimer
Anathapindikovada Sutta (14:33)- Translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. This sutta tells the tale of a thorough teaching on non-clinging given to a dying layman by one of the Buddha’s main disciples. It is compelling for the teaching itself, but particularly beautiful and poignant as it is a glimpse of an esoteric teaching being uncovered for non-monastics for the first time, thereby inspiring a compassionate plea from the dying man to share it with other laymen.
